Former Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi Dies at 76

The Nigerian military has lost a former Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, who passed away at the age of 76.

Admiral Ogohi, a Kogi-born naval officer, made history as the first Naval Officer to become Chief of Defence Staff CDS of Nigeria, serving from 1999 to 2003

He was also the first Naval Officer to reach four-star rank in the Nigerian military during a civilian administration

A statement by the Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau says he passed on in Abuja in the early hours of today, adding that The Nigerian military has lost a seasoned and decorated officer, who served the Nation with distinction.

Admiral Ogohi’s contributions to the development of the Nigerian military are immeasurable.

His career spanned several decades, with notable appointments, including Commanding Officer of NNS France, Director of Administration at the Nigerian Defence Academy, and Commandant of the National War College

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
