On Saturday afternoon, series of bomb blast were reported to have occured in Gwoza, Borno State, in North East Nigeria where Boko Haram insurgency has subsisted.

Reports said that the first bomb which went off at about 3 pm was detonated by a female suicide bomber, in the midst of a marriage ceremony.

That incident was said to have affected over 30 persons.

Some minutes later, another blast was said to have occurred around the General Hospital.

At a funeral service, (Janaiza), another lady was said to have rushed into the congregation and detonated another one, causing many casualties, while another one was again exploded by a female teenager.

Sources say so far, 18 deaths comprising of children, adult male, females, and pregnant women were recorded.

Efforts to reach Borno State’s Director General, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Dr Barkindo Saidu, at the time of filing this report was not successful as his phone was switched off.

Gwoza, a former stronghold of Boko Haram is in Southern Borno State and borders Cameroon.

It is about 130km from Maiduguri.
