Following disturbances caused by thugs and social miscreants recently within Minna metropolis, the Niger government has warned communities and their heads, known as Mai Angwas, against harbouring such criminals.

The government threatened that any community giving shelter to such individuals will face severe consequences.

Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba issued the warning during a visit to areas affected by recent violence caused by unscrupulous elements in Minna metropolis.

Garba stressed that communities that fail to report criminal elements to the authorities would be held accountable.

The Deputy Governor ordered security forces to carry out operations in hotspot areas, arrest criminals, and restore peace to Minna and its neighbouring communities.

The deputy governor urged the public to report any crime to the authorities for prompt action.

Troubled areas visited by the deputy Governor include Dutsen Kura, Kpakungu Soje A&B, Morris area, and Tudun Wada police station.

He was accompanied by the state commissioner of police, Adamu Elleman, officials from the State Security Service, SSS, Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and local vigilante groups.

So far, 61 suspected thugs, social miscreants and armed robbers have been arrested by the police in Minna metropolis.
